Cliquesoft Announcements / Working to create our own repo
« Last post by wysiwyg on July 07, 2017, 07:01:50 PM »
Due to the inconsistencies of the TinyCore software repositories, we are working to create our own from scratch - pushing us further from a fork to being our own, fully unique distro!  While some of the items in the below list have been attempted at getting resolved, they are still problems and are being addressed:

- Names are not uniform
          Example: foo.tcz in x86 (i32) might be foo-ng.tcz in x86_64 (i64)
- Packages are not split the same way
Example: foo.tcz in x86 (i32) might include binaries, documentation, and libraries, whereas there might be foo.tcz, foo-lib.tcz, foo-doc.tcz in x86_64 (i64)
- The existence of a package in one repo does not mean it is available in another
          Example: foo.tcz exists for x86 (i32), but not for x86_64 (i64) or RPi (r32)
- The source code used to build the packages may not be the same
Example: foo.tcz in x86 (i32) might be using 1.2.3 version of source code and the x86_64 (i64) might use 1.3.4
- The compile flags are not the same
          Example: foo.tcz in x86 (i32) might use "--option1=xyz --option2 --option3", whereas "--option2 --option5" may be used to compile for x86_64 (i64)
- Useful files are missing
Example: .desktop files are used by a lot of user interfaces to load software correctly, but they are missing in many of the packages causing error messages or no loading at all

Hopefully over the next 60-90 days we will have this ironed out.  If anyone is interested is contributing their time or talents (many hands make for light work), please visit the following slack group:

Cliquesoft Announcements / We have a release for the Raspberry Pi's
« Last post by wysiwyg on July 07, 2017, 06:42:59 PM »
As noted in our wiki, we wanted to create a release for the Raspberry Pi boards by Q2 2017 and we made it!

Testing shows that there is quite a bit of lag for the Pi2 and only marginally less when using a Pi3 with the vanilla edition (VE).  The embedded edition (EE) should perform without problems since the local user interface is command line.  Users who wish to troubleshoot the problem and help are welcomed to do so!  Users of the Pi0 and Pi1 should currently avoid using VE altogether, but should have no issues with EE.

In addition, we would like to point out that due to the non-standardization of the TC software repo's, some of the base packages used by web.de are not currently present for this release and will cause some problems.  We are working on this and will update when fixes have been made.

Cliquesoft Announcements / Media lookups no longer work
« Last post by wysiwyg on July 07, 2017, 06:31:57 PM »
Due to the company that sources the data now charging for access, the ability to lookup media data no longer works in the web.links application.  We are working to find another source or possibly pay for access to resume this service.  If any users have input or want to contribute funds, please let our staff know.

Cliquesoft Announcements / Feature highlights with the May release
« Last post by wysiwyg on May 08, 2017, 04:25:19 PM »
Although still in beta, each version is becoming more and more stable while gaining and expanding features.  With that being said, we would like to highlight some of them in the 2017.05.07.0 release.  While the below list is not exhaustive, it does provide a few key examples:

- The sheer size of the OS
     EE 32bit is 37MB
     EE 64bit is 41MB
     VE 32bit is 69MB
     VE 64bit is 76MB

- Control one device with another device
Using a mobile phone, you can control another computer (e.g. HTPC) to play music, movies, and slideshows!
NOTE: This is currently only available in the default theme and has been tested using Google's Chrome on the mobile device

- Media lookups
Using the "State > Video" or similar link, the selected media file will have its information shown before playing
NOTE: this will require the files to be in a certain format, see our wiki for additional information

- Various themes
Are you a user from the Microsoft Windows or the Unity Linux interface?  We have themes available for you to continue working in those familiar environments - with others soon to come!

- Useful for new and legacy equipment
Since the OS requires low resources, it can be used on a variety of devices - whether headed or headless!
Additionally the boot media (FIRMWARE) can be a hard drive, flash drive, SD card, CD, DVD, etc with the DATA partition being any media that's connected and writable
NOTE: if booting off of optical media, it can be removed once the OS has loaded

Cliquesoft Announcements / Flag problematic software in our online repo
« Last post by wysiwyg on May 08, 2017, 01:46:33 PM »
Although we are currently a fork of the TinyCore project, our package repo has alternative naming conventions for various reasons.  This can cause some packages to not get loaded correctly as it may be looking for software under a name that is no longer valid.  And while we have made every attempt to fix this problem ahead of time, there are bound to be instances where this failed to take place.  Additionally, there are some software in the TinyCore repo itself that has issues loading due to some dependencies not getting added - which gets propagated into our repo as well.  In an upcoming version we plan on incorporating a 'Flag' option directly in the UI, but in the mean time, help us resolve these issues by contacting our staff about software that you have installed, but does not seem to work properly:

Cliquesoft Announcements / Vote for XiniX on distrowatch.com
« Last post by wysiwyg on May 08, 2017, 01:36:13 PM »
Currently there is very little "marketing" on the Internet about this operating system.  And as a result, not too many know about it unfortunately.  Help us get the word out and gain some exposure in the sea of Linux distributions!  By voting for us on distrowatch.com, we can have an additional point of publication on the world wide web.  To do so, simply click the link below to take you to their page, along with the 'Recommend' button associated with the 'XiniX' entry!

Cliquesoft Announcements / Re: The install process fails to complete
« Last post by wysiwyg on May 08, 2017, 01:14:30 PM »
While the 2017.04.07.0 version corrected issues with installing a DATA partition, the 2017.05.07.0 release corrected issues with installing a FIRMWARE partition with the exception of having optical media as the target in the 'State > Install' screen.

This problem was resolved in the current latest version of the software (2017.04.07.0).
